TONGUE TIE

What is a tongue tie?
Tongue tie (ankyloglossia) is a condition where a baby’s tongue is unusually attached to the floor of the mouth due to a short lingual frenulum, affecting tongue function. It often requires treatment and can cause issues like feeding difficulties, reflux, or colic. Support is available for both breast and bottle feeding, as well as for unsettled babies.
My approach to treating tongue tie and oral dysfunction
Treatment for tongue tie is tailored to each baby based on the tie’s severity and the symptoms it causes. A holistic assessment using a validated tool helps determine if a tongue tie division is necessary or whether oral exercises and massage would be best depending on the class of the tie and oral tension. If a tongue tie release is advisable then I will discuss this as the best solution and it is a case of figuring out when would be the best time for the procedure in order for the best possible outcome. The division is only a small part of the issue and the pre and post work will pay dividends in long term benefits.
